I just woke up, it is 5pm here. Yesterday was a very interesting day
and it only got better towards the end. It all started with me deciding
to visit largest park in Madrid called Retiro Park. I jumped on the
subway and was there in 10 or so minutes. As I was about to walk out of
the subway I was approached by a local friendly dealer who offered me a
stick of finest Moroccan hash for a mere 90 Euros. We chatted a bit and
he learned I was from New York and that I legitimately believed his
price was marked a tad high. Five minutes later we agreed on 40 Euros
[50$] for about 5 grams of finest sticky stuff I ever got my hands on.

Park was just like any other park in big city. It was alright I think.
Above is the fountain and below is a man made lake I would guess.
Couples were boating in this one. I was solo, so I kept on walking….

I got really lost and hungry. So I wandered outside of park on the
streets looking for something that I could eat. Biggest issue I have
here so far is the language barrier. I am sure there are many delicious
things I could be eating, but I cannot translate 90% of the menus. So I
either risk ordering something I will not want to eat, or am limiting
myself to the 5 food stuffs I know in Spanish. Next time I am traveling
anywhere I am investing in a pocket dictionary for sure…
So after an hour of trying to find something I could eat, I just gave
up and walked into first place I could find. Luckily there was one
thing on the menu that seemed semi ok. Calamari Romano seemed like a
brilliant choice. And here is what I got…

It was quite tasty, but I may have also just been really freaking
hungry. In my honest opinion it could use a little topping or sauce, or
something else to add to the complex combination of bread and fried
calamari...
I went back to the hostel and crashed. Woke up and rolled a fatty with
product I obtained earlier. I was going to do some work but internet
was down. So I wandered the streets and saw this giant eye guy
protesting against Bush Laden. I did not know Spanish do not like him either ;)

Late at night I went to Kapital, the largest club in Madrid. This venue
had 7 floors, 4 rooms of music and few lounges, movie theatre and
shops. This is the largest club I have ever been to in my life. Going
up and down the stairs made me very tired, so I stuck to the main floor
that played very good house music all night. Light show was amazing,
they utilized many lasers and strobes, a steam cooling system that shot
cold mist into the crowd and bubble making machine that... well made
soap bubbles everywhere! I wish I brought my digital camera, but it
makes it hard to dance because my already baggy pants keep falling
down. I smoked that sticky stuff and danced my ass off for a good 8
hours. Went back to hostel 8am and fell asleep like a baby. And tonight
is another huge dance party I would like to attend. This time I will
just bring camera and take some pictures!

Yet another day of wandering the streets of Madrid. With no particular
system or arrangement streets here run in every direction possible and
it is quite easy to get lost. Most of the time I found myself walking
around in circles, and had to summon my fundamental knowledge of
Spanish to torment locals into helping me get unlost.
Speaking of the locals. They're curious bunch, more on that later…

This is the bank of Spain. I found this building to be very impressive
and had to take a picture. Note the really neat lamppost on the photo.
This city is full of these objects! Walked a bit more towards Puerta
Del Sol and saw a street theatre performance. It was a typical tourist
gig but was quite entertaining nevertheless.

Puerta Del Sol and surrounding streets is a very interesting area that
is two different worlds depending on the time of the day. During the
daylight is a popular city plaza filled with people, shops selling all
kind of crap you can imagine. At night it is a central prostitution
area. Both girls and guys pretending to be girls cruise the streets and
hang out on street corners. I was extremely curious and took my time to
question one of the trannies. Here is word for word dialogue we had…
Vita: Perdon senor! Esta hombre or muher? (Pardon sir, are you a man or a woman?)
Tranny: Mi gusto hombre! (Me like men!)
Vita: Bien. Quanto esta? (Fine. How much?)
Tranny: *shows three fingers*
Vita: Three hundred euros??? Holy crap!
Tranny: No, Thirty (in English)…
So there you have it, 30 Euros (40 USD) buys a Spanish transvestite. I
only can imagine what kind of deceases you will obtain as a free
bonus ;)
I walked some more and came to Puerta De Toledo. It was a very pretty
gate in my opinion. And it shows Madrid at night. It is truly a
beautiful picturesque city!

At night I caught up with a few people from the hostel and we went out
to find some decent music to dance to. Unfortunately there was not much
on Wednesday and best thing we discovered was some lounge bar that
played terrible Latin and pop mix.
We did get quite a bit on entertainment however from watching the
drunken locals throwing themselves against storefront metal gates in
attempt to try and cling on to it. I think the idea of this sport was
to see who could stick the highest to the vertical wall, while trying
to defy laws of gravity. Some of them were quite good at it… but a few
fell on the floor. Another thing I found that local Madridians love to
do is to break windows of storefronts. I guess all that testosterone is
going to fine use. Ron, a kid from New Jersey invented his own local
sport called “I am going to crap out a giant stone ball”. Simple
entertainment at its best!

Anyways, my hope for today is to finally find some music I can dance
to. I hope for the best or I am going to lose my mind. I did hear
Barcelona has better music scene, so worse case scenario I would have
to just hope there a little sooner. More updates coming soon!

Madrid is quite nice. It is a strange fusion of Hispanic culture and
European style. I spend my entire day yesterday just walking around the
city and I feel there is so much more here to explore and that I have
merely touched the tip of the iceberg. My hostel is located right next
to Plaza de Mayor.

It is the largest city center plaza that has been converted from a city
market by King Philip II in 1617. Majority for executions of heretics
during inquisitions took place here. It was also used for festivities,
bull fights and coronations. Short walk from here has landed me to the
Madrid Palace…

This picture does not do this building justice, simply because it is so
huge and it was impossible to get everything in the photo. But it
should give a decent idea of a magnificence of this structure. I kept
walking along and passed this barber shop. Could not resist not taking
a picture here, because how often it is you see a hair place named
after Jesus? I am not sure but he may have even cut his hair here once…

Next thing I bumped into was this beautiful Santa Maria cathedral!

I stepped inside and took this picture of stained glass reflection on
the floor. The words on the ground mark the crypts of saints buried
right on the spot…

Right behind the cathedral I spotted a large park. And here I took a
picture of these gorgeous fountains. Locals just relaxed around here on
benches and on the grass.

Day was almost over and I started to make a walk back to hostel for a
rest. On the way back I saw this pink hobo... He was my style and I
took this photo!

Today is a new day and I am planning to make the best of it by
exploring more of Madrid and seeing as much as possible. I will be
writing more on that tomorrow!

Just one day and night in Paris and I came to realize a few things.
First, yes Paris is a gorgeous city. It is very true that it has all
its charm and romance. It has all the luxury and style. For example
here is the view of the city from the river at night…

And here is a photo I took of a really pretty decorated lamp post!

And this fancy arch thingy…

It may seem strange that I am being so brief and non specific. But
everything has their reasons. The reason could be for instance that I
got lost in this magically enormous Paris park…

Or it could be because this could have been me on a crappy day! (yes,
its true, that is a genuine Paris bum wrapped in aluminum foil)…

But the real reason for my indifference is actually because of
something else that I realized from my one day in Paris. Most local
people here are extremely hostile and unfriendly to visitors. And they
are quite full of themselves. I do not know why they carry their vanity
and self-absorption so proudly. But it is true… French here are stuck
up, rude and arrogant assholes. And that is perhaps why I choose not to
think more about France then I need to. Frankly I am really fed up with
this place and cannot wait for tomorrow, when I land in Madrid, Spain!

So I am now sitting at some French airport in Paris for 3 hours. I am
so bored I started to attempt to learn French from the café menus. My
friend’s plane got rerouted through Dublin. So with 5 hours to spend at
such exciting place like this me and Mary made friends. I don’t mind
being here so much any more. But it is awfully quiet for an airport.
French manners I guess…
There is a fine line between manners and social phobia. It is when you
can no longer be in control of your manners due to bad food that you
understand how hard it is to be French!

Let me rewind a bit to explain this better. The cheapest ticket for non
stop flight was on Indian Airlines. I was the only pale person on the
plane. Except for the French guy behind me who kept getting pissy about
(god forbid) I leaning my seat back to I could sleep. I was only awake
for 36 hrs straight. So when he started knocking on my seat, in my half
awaken state I turned around and said “Dude this is a plane” and went
back to sleep. He did not bother me another time. But something else
did…
They served curry for dinner. I like curry. I ate all of it and it was
delicious. But as we know most good things seem to always have negative
consequences. And my “Con” sequence after eating curry came 8 hours
later, which is right about now at Paris airport… I will never eat
curry again!
My friend should be walking out of gate any moment now and we are
supposed to somehow end up in Spain tomorrow. We have no solid plans
how, so this should be “interesting”. I will have another update and
pictures tomorrow. Many hugs and kisses to those reading ;)

Randomest stuff. I play with my camera and get this brilliant idea to
take a picture of the top of my head and this is what happens...
Now I am all confused and really concerned. Is this what it starts out
like and then gets worse, or am I just freaking out for no reason? So i
posted a poll on the left to help determine that. Please let me know
what you think. I must know. Thanks!

On an unrelated notice, I scored some cheap tickets to France. I never
been to France, but I feel confident that my time in a French Canadian
titty bar few months ago has prepared me well enough. Spain is close,
so I may pay them a visit as well. Planning about 3 weeks in Western
Europe and thinking what kind of fund raiser can I do to fund this
little getaway. Things are getting to expensive to buy in game for
gold, and it seems everyone needs gold all the time these days. So I
may do another gold sale special to help me on my trip...
